Contains parts to build German A-4/V-2 Rocket and it's launch pad as per box artwork. The V-2 was the first long range combat ballistic missile. It was the basis of all subsequent rockets developed by the US and Soviet Union's space programs. Propelled by a mix of 75%ethanol and 25% water with liquid oxygen it could trasnport a 1,000kg warhead up to 200 miles (320km). First used in September 1944, V-2 were aimed against a number of Allied targets. While London was a significant target, more were actually launched on Antwerp in Belgium. Targets in France, the Netherlands and Germany itself were also on the recieving end of V-2 attacks. V-2 rockets could be launched from mobile sites - roads running through forests were a favourite launch site - making them far harder for the Allies to target than the earlier V-1 flying bomb. So effective was this strategy that only one mobile site was ever caught in action. The most effective approach to defeting the V-2 was the Allied advance toward Germany. Over 6,000 were built of which 3,225 were launched. Once built, the V-2 is approx 18cm high and the launch pad adds a further 0.5cm in height.
