This is a brand new Shogi (Japanese Chess) set with a foldable chessboard in fine plastic and metal material. The chessboard measures 9.8" in length, 9.8" in width, and 0.79" in thickness when unfolded. The chessboard is foldable, with a nicely designed storage compartment for storing the chess pieces. When folded, the chessboard gives adequate mechanical strength to withstand general impact. The pentangular playing pieces are made of soft magnetic materials. The magnetic properties of the chess pieces enable them to stay in place even when the chessboard is tilted. The King ("王將") are larger in size. The Pawns ("步兵") are smaller. The name on each piece is made up of two Kanji (Chinese characters used in Japanese) characters and is written in black color on one side of the chess piece. On the reverse side, except for the King ("王將") and the Gold General ("金將"), you will see character(s) written in cursive style in red color. These cursive characters indicate the "promoted" value of the piece. The direction of the pieces helps to distinct which side the pieces belong to: the pieces owned by you will point towards your opponent on the chess board.
