Kendama is a Japanese game of skill that involves performing a variety of tricks using a ball connected to a sword-shaped wooden handle. The wooden handle has a spike as well as plate-shaped platforms, with which one can catch the ball.
Dexterity and balance
Games of skill like Kendama are nothing new. Many different cultures have similar games. The educational wooden game in its present form was developed by a Japanese man in the early 20th century. As the game spread, new tricks which still belong to today's Kandama players' standard repertoire were established: aeroplane, lighthouse and birds.
The scene
Over the last few years a freestyle scene has grown up internationally, in which new tricks are constantly being developed and which integrate skills from other disciplines, such as juggling, into the game of Kendama. Championships are of course also held.
The FUNSPORTING Kendama is made from pine wood and coated with a two-tone gloss varnish.
